Smoked BBQ Turkey Legs

Serves 6

6 turkey legs

Olive oil (for coating)

Favorite dry rub (or see recipes under Dry Rubs, bastes, Sauces & Marinades)

Favorite BBQ sauce (or see recipes under Dry Rubs, bastes, Sauces & Marinades)

 

Classic Mop:

¾ cup distilled white vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons pure vegetable oil

Salt and pepper (to taste)

 

  1. Coat legs with a thin layer of oil. Apply a generous amount of dry rub evenly over legs and apply as much as possible under skin, massaging well to coat. Place legs in a plastic bag and refrigerate overnight.
  1. Remove from refrigerator and allow legs to sit at room temperature for approximately 20 minutes.
  1. To prepare mop, combine all ingredients in a non-reactive saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for approximately 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Prepare smoker according to directions listed by manufacturer.
  3. Place legs in smoker and cook (at about 220° F) until well-done, approximately 4 hours. Baste legs with mop every 45-60 minutes.
  4. Remove legs from smoker and brush with BBQ sauce, if desired.
