Southwestern BBQ Sauce

Yields approximately 2 cups

1½ cups tomato ketchup

½ cup apple cider vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons molasses

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cloves garlic (minced)

½ medium yellow onion (chopped)

1 fresh green chili pepper (stemmed, seeded, and diced)

½ teaspoon garlic salt

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon liquid smoke

¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

¼ teaspoon dry mustard

½ teaspoon crushed red chili pepper flakes

Salt and pepper (to taste)

  1. Heat oil in a non-reactive saucepan. Sauté garlic, onion, and chili pepper until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer, stirring frequently, for approximately 10 minutes, or until sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
