Kansas City-style BBQ Sauce

Yields approximately 2¾ cups

1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce

½ cup tomato ketchup

½ cup distilled white vinegar

¼ cup apple juice

½ cup brown sugar

3 tablespoons molasses

3 tablespoons dark corn syrup

3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1 teaspoon crushed red chili pepper flakes

½ teaspoon liquid smoke

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 clove garlic (minced)

½ teaspoon paprika

¼ teaspoon ground cumin

Salt and pepper (to taste)

 

  1. Combine all ingredients in a non-reactive saucepan. Simmer over low heat, stirring frequently, for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until sauce thickens.
  2. Remove from heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
