Grilled Figs with Strawberry-Honey Glaze

Serves 4

1 pound fresh figs

Pure vegetable oil (for brushing)

Strawberry-Honey Glaze:

1½ cups fresh or frozen (thawed) strawberries

¼ cup honey

¼ cup dark rum

¼ cup strawberry nectar

Juice of 1 lemon

3 tablespoons brown sugar

  1. Lightly brush figs with oil.
  2. Arrange figs on a hot, oiled grill grate over indirect medium heat. Cook for approximately 15 minutes, or until figs are lightly charred and tender. Transfer to a serving plate.
  3. To prepare glaze, combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Simmer, over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture reduces by half. Remove from heat. Allow to cool until just warm. Transfer mixture to a blender and puree until smooth.
  4. Drizzle warm glaze over grilled figs. Strain, if desired. Serve immediately.
