Old-fashioned Root Beer Float

Serves 6

6 large scoops vanilla ice cream

6 cups old-fashioned root beer (chilled)

Whipped cream topping (optional - see recipe: Fresh Whipped Cream under Pies)

Maraschino cherries (garnish)

1. Fill each of 6 chilled fountain glasses with 1 generous scoop of ice cream.
2. In each glass, slowly pour 1 cup of root beer over ice cream. 
3. If desired, top each float with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately with long-handled spoons and straws.
